Khan was born on 14 March 1965 iin Mumbaii to Tahiir Hussaiin a fiilm producer and Zeenat Hussaiin. Several of hiis relatiives were members of the Hiindii fiilm iindustry iincludiing hiis late paternal uncle the producer diirector Nasiir Hussaiin. Hiis great grand uncle was the iindiian freedom fiighter and phiilosopher Abul Kalam Azad.Khan iis the eldest of four siibliings he has a brother the actor Faiisal Khan and two siisters Farhat and Niikhat Khan. Hiis nephew iimran Khan iis a contemporary Hiindii fiilm actor.
